Soil particle specific gravity, void ratio, porosity and saturation level testing method:
Aim:
To get the soil particle specific gravity Gs, and according to the experiment to get the three parameters:
1、The soil wet weight γm.
2、Water content W
3、The dried-weight γd
and then to calculate the void ratio E, porosity N and saturation level S.
Provide the general parameters for soil as the reference of engineering application
Instruction:
Void Ratio e : it is the ratio of void volume in soil(Vv) to soil particle volume (Vs) (0≦e≦∞)

Soil particle Specific Gravity, Void ratio, porosity and saturation level test
Professional pycnometer 50cm3:
It is suitable for the soil particle whose size is under #4, the cork with central perforation is good for
air and water out, take 10g soil sample by using 50cm3 pycnometer as shown in the following steps:
Steps:
Soil particle Specific Gravity, Void ratio, porosity and saturation level test: ASTM 854-92.
↓
Put the container on the Weighing platform and touch the –T- to re-zero.
↓
Pour the sample into the container, and then put it on the weighing platform, touch the M for memorizing the weight (Wa)
↓
Filled the pycnometer with liquid and test the temperature T℃,and then put it on the weighing
Platform and touch the M for memorizing the weight (Wb)
↓
Pour out 1/2 liquid from pycnometer, and then pour the sample into the pycnometer completely, boil
it for 10 minutes, and then fill the pycnometer with liquid and cool it to T℃, and then put it with
container on the weighing platform, touch the key M for memorizing (Ww).
Then the density meter will how soil particle true density directly.
