Why does the density of liquid dependent on its temperature?
Three factors affecting liquid density measurement:
- Temperature:
When liquid temperature rises or falls, due to the relationship of thermal expansion and contraction, the volume of liquid will expand or reduce, then the density of liquid will decrease or increase.
- Pressure:
When the pressure of liquid increases or decreases, the volume of liquid will have a slight trend of reducing or increasing.
- Chemical structure:
The polarity of the liquid molecules, the length of carbon chain, the symmetry of the shape of molecule… etc.
In these three factors, the liquid density change caused by pressure and chemical structure is smaller than caused by temperature.
